Bidur is a city ( municipality ) and the administrative seat of the Nuwakot District in Nepal , about 25 km (as the crow flies) northwest of Kathmandu .
Bidur lies on the upper reaches of the Trishuli . About 420 m above Bidur is the mountain village of Nuwakot and the fortress of the same name , after which the district is named. It was built in Malla style in the 18th century on the trade route between Tibet and the Kathmandu valley . Nuwakot belongs to a total of 9 Ghorka fortresses of Pritvi Narayan Shah and was the capital of his empire until his capture of Kathmandus in 1768. The urban area covers 33.48 km².
