history

After steamships from predecessor companies had already operated on Lake Biel and the Aare, the Steamship Company Union was established in Erlach BE in 1887 . In 1930 it moved its headquarters to Biel. Since 1966 it has been operating as the Bielersee-Schifffahrts-Gesellschaft. In that year she took over the motor ship " Romandie ", which had operated between Solothurn and Nidau since 1952, from a private operator , and integrated this route into her timetable.

Scheduled ship of the BSG in the port

In 1887 the shipping company started operating between Erlach and La Neuveville with the new steamship "Union". From 1888, she also used the side paddle steamer “Stadt Biel” on Lake Biel, which had previously sailed on Lake Geneva under the name “Cygne”. This ship was taken out of service in 1934 and later replaced by a motor ship of the same name. From 1912 to 1964, the Bielersee-Schifffahrts-Gesellschaft also used the “Berna” paddle steamer built by Escher Wyss , which was then also replaced by a motor ship of the same name.
