The place was first mentioned in the Lorsch Codex on February 23, 800 when it was donated to the Lorsch Monastery . Until the High Middle Ages , the place belonged as a fiefdom to the monastery of the bishops of Würzburg and the electors of Mainz . According to documents and chronicles, possession of the Lord von Aschhausen and other knights is more than likely. In 1434, Emperor Sigismund granted permission to set up his own court in Bieringen. From 1631 Bieringen became the property of the Schöntal Monastery . Abbot Angelus von Schöntal built the pleasure palace in 1736 , which is now used as a Catholic rectory. After the abolition of Schöntal Monastery, Bieringen came to Württemberg in 1803. After the establishment of the Kingdom of Württemberg , the place belonged to the Oberamt Schöntal until 1810, then to the Oberamt Öhringen until 1811 and finally to the Oberamt Künzelsau , which was transferred to the district of the same name in 1938 .

In 1939 there were 821 inhabitants, at the end of 1945 there were 970. The Second World War reached the village on the Jagst in spring 1945. Retreating German troops destroyed the bridge over the Jagst on Easter Sunday 1945. Several shells hit the village during skirmishes with the advancing American troops. The resistance of remaining German troops was broken on April 7th. As early as April 9, the destroyed bridge was makeshift repaired by American pioneers.

In 1966 a partnership with the town of the same name Bieringen (Rottenburg) am Neckar was launched. As part of the community reform, Bieringen merged with seven other localities on March 1, 1972 to form the community of Schöntal .
