course

The Big Dry Creek rises in southwest Garfield County at about 1078  m between McGinnis Butte in the west and Emma Butte in the east about 16 km southeast of Sand Springs . Initially it flows mainly northwards, followed by Ingomar Road . Shortly after the source, after crossing under Murray Road , there is a small reservoir and after crossing under Ingomar Road another. A little later, the water of the Brickhammer Coulee gorge flows into the river from the left .

It turns north-east after its confluence and then shortly north after the bridge on Fitch Road . After the confluence of the Dugout Coulee, it flows again to the northeast and shortly afterwards takes on the Haislett Creek from the left. It passes under Dutton Lane and turns north, being bridged by Montana Highway 200 . It now flows again briefly to the northeast, taking in the Steve Forks , Lone Tree Creek and Smoky Butte Creek streams flowing in from the left , before continuing eastwards. The Big Dry Creek reaches the Town and County Seat Jordan only a little later , where it is again bridged by the Montana Highway 200.

After Jordan, Vait Creek and Jones Creek flow from the left and Sand Creek from the right , before crossing again under Montana Highway 200. The LS Creek and Ada Creek flow from the right and Frazier Creek and Kelly Creek from the left . A little later, near Van Norman , Little Dry Creek flows to the right , and the river turns north. He now takes Coal Creek from the right and Woody Creek from the left , after which he reaches the Charles M. Russell National Wildlife Refuge . After the left mouth of Flat Creek it briefly forms the boundary between the two counties before it crosses into the area of McCone County and at the same time includes Timber Creek from the right.

Finally, the Big Dry Creek flows at 685  m into the Dry Arm , the arm of the Fort Peck Lake reservoir that extends deep to the south.
