Wayside shrine (Knellendorf, Gundelsdorfer Straße)
The shrine front of the property Gundel Straße 1 in Knell village is under monument protection standing small monument that has arisen. 1877 The occasion was a pregnant woman from a Knellendorf family who was attacked by a cow while herding cattle , but was able to save herself. The sandstone shrine rests on an octagonal- shaped, bulbous base , which supports a two-tier pillar shaft decorated with banding . On the front of the capital , which forms the upper end of the shaft, is the inscription “G. Karl 1877 “carved. Above the capital there is a four-sided attachment with retracted round arches with inlaid decorations. The arched roof bears an iron cross.
There are clover-leaf crosses in relief on the two narrow sides of the top, and a metal panel with a depiction of the Glosberg Mother of God is attached to the picture niche on the front . A statue of the Virgin Mary in the neighboring pilgrimage site is said to have wept bloody tears several times in 1727, which is why this motif can be found on numerous wayside shrines in the Franconian Forest . On the back of the essay is the eye of God with the inscription "O Mary take us under your protection".
The memorial originally stood about 300 meters south of the village in a field next to today's federal highway 85 . Although it was flanked protectively by two linden trees , the Marter was damaged several times in traffic accidents within a few years. After the most recent destruction in January 1979, the damaged individual parts were restored by the Kronach sculptor Heinrich Schreiber. The sheet metal panel with the representation of Our Lady, which was also damaged, was replaced by a true-to-style new production by the Kronach artist Hedwig Müller-Achilles. In order to protect the monument from further damage, it was re-erected at its current location on the property of the descendants of the donor family after the restoration was completed.
In 2000 the torture was cleared and the picture of the Virgin Mary was replaced by a new creation by Roland Ringlstetter.
