Bill Fitch

Bill Fitch (born November 27, 1941 in New Haven , † 2010 ) was an American jazz percussionist ( congas ) and composer.

Fitch attended the Berklee College of Music in Boston from 1958 . In the early 1960s he accompanied Cal Tjader ( Soña Libré ) for two years , for whom he wrote his best-known title Insight , which u. a. was covered by Bobby Shew . Then he moved to Los Angeles and worked in the West Coast jazz scene as a percussionist with the Rene Bloch Big Band, Charles Kynard / Buddy Collette ( Warm Winds 1964), Vince Guaraldi , Poncho Sanchez , but also with Hubert Laws ( Flute By Laws ) . After leaving the music scene for a while, he played around Berklee College with Chick Corea , Gary Burton , Don Alias, and Tony Williams in the 1970s . In his later years he lived in Hartford, Connecticut and was a mentor to young musicians. In the field of jazz, Fitch participated in six recording sessions between 1963 and 1965.
