The mountain Billingen is the largest of the Västgötabergen (western Swedish table mountains ). It is located in the historic province of Västergötland in the center of the Skaraborg region between the lakes Vänern and Vättern . The mountain, which stretches from north to south, is 23 kilometers long, 11 kilometers wide and reaches a height of 304 meters above sea level.

The mountain is covered by a 40 meter thick layer of diabase , which prevented its erosion during the last ice age. Underneath are layers of slate , limestone , alum slate , which is uranium-containing, and sandstone (from top to bottom).

It is divided into two parts by a valley that runs east-west from Skövde to Varnhem. On the plateau there are extensive forests and bog areas, including the Blängsmossen nature reserve with its unique flora.

The Billingen is a popular destination. There is a hotel with a restaurant, a ski slope, cross-country skiing trails (from 2.5 to 15 km), a bandy playing field. Orienteering runs are held regularly on the Billingen in summer . The trails are used for jogging, and Skövde's outdoor swimming pool is also located here . The city of Skövde and the surrounding area can be seen from various vantage points. There are also hiking routes that run on paved paths, but also on unpaved paths.

The Amundtorp burial ground is south of Varnhem and on the west side of Billingen.
