Billy Fayard
Al Francis "Billy" Fayard Jr. (born February 25, 1941 in Gretna , Jefferson Parish , Louisiana ; † February 8, 2012 there ) was an American rhythm and blues musician ( vocals , drums ) and club owner.

Billy Fayard, who came from the New Orleans area , founded the formation The Belmonts around 1955 ; then he served in the US Army for 4½ years. After his release he was a member of the formation The Stokes from the early 1960s , which had regional success in collaboration with Allen Toussaint with the title Whipped Cream (1965); the number was later popularized by Herb Alpert and the Tijuana Brass. With Allen Toussaint he also recorded an album ( Whipped Cream & Other Delights ); with The Stokes he played a total of seven singles for the small label Alon , but they were not very successful. The band also appeared on Tossaint's number Go Back Home / Poor Boy, Got To Move for Alon. Under his real name, Al Fayard , he recorded the title Doin 'Sumpin, arranged by Toussaint . As Al DF Fayard he composed the track Hot Tamales , which was recorded in 1968 by Allen Toussaint and Art Neville under the band name The Prime Mates .
Fayard also worked in Ike & Tina Turner's backing band in Killeen , Texas for some time . Under the pseudonym KC Russell he recorded Yuka Chuka Tee Ta Ta for the Tower label . In early 1971 he played in the Cellar Club in his hometown of Gretna. 1973-75 he was a manager of the local semi-professional football team Gretna Bengals . In 1976 he opened the Fat Cat Club , in 1988 he was co-owner of the Celebrity Club ; In 1991 he ran the club Jelly Rom's on Bourbon Street in New Orleans , where he played with his own big band . From 1995 he ran the night club Caddy Shack . Fayard died at the age of 70 as a result of a gunshot wound.
