Billy James
Billy James (actually Abraham William James Jr , * 25. November 1938 ; † 20th November 2011 ) was an American jazz - drummer .
James grew up in West Philadelphia; after completing his military service as a cryptologist, he studied at the Curtis Institute, Temple University and the Philadelphia Conservatory of Music. In the Philadelphia jazz scene he played a. a. with Gene Ammons , Lionel Hampton , Don Patterson , Grant Green , Pat Martino , Eddie Harris ( Is It In , 1974), Eddie Lockjaw Davis , Sonny Stitt , Miles Davis and McCoy Tyner . From 1962 to 2004, James participated in 41 recording sessions other than those with Eric Kloss , Gene Ludwig and Houston Person . James was a full-time computer administrator and a part-time university professor, most recently at Drexel University . He died in 2011 of complications from pneumonia .
