Billy Wallace (pianist)

Billy Wallace (born August 20, 1929 in Milwaukee , Wisconsin , † December 7, 2017 in Denver , Colorado ) was an American jazz pianist .

Wallace played for Buddy Ryland in 1949 and was involved in recordings by Max Roach / Clifford Brown ( In 3/4 Time ) and Porter Kilbert in the mid-1950s . He also played in Chicago with Illinois Jacquet , Von Freeman and Charlie Parker . In 1957 he recorded in trio in Chicago under his own name ( BW ); At the end of the decade he also worked with Frank Strozier , Johnny Pate / Tiny Topsy, with Billy Mitchell in 1962 and with Bunky Green in 1965 . Throughout his career he has accompanied Billie Holiday , Carmen McRae , Anita O'Day , Johnny Hartman , Arthur Prysock and Lou Rawls . In the 1990s he was still working with Edmonia Jarrett and Floyd Standifer ( How Do You Keep the Music Playing ). In his later years he worked in Seattle and Denver. In the field of jazz he was involved in 25 recording sessions between 1949 and 1997.
