Birand Bingül
Birand Bingül (born July 10, 1974 in Wickede - Wimbern ) is a German journalist and writer.
Life
Bingül completed a journalism degree at the University of Dortmund . He worked at Westdeutscher Rundfunk (WDR) in Cologne as head of duty and as a reporter for the ARD Tagesschau , Tagesthemen and Tagesschau Online. From 2005 to 2010 he appeared regularly as a commentator on the daily topics. In addition, he occasionally published in print media, for example the article German Turks in 2007 , fight for your integration yourself! in the weekly newspaper Die Zeit . From 2010 to 2014 Bingül was the deputy company spokesman for West German Broadcasting in Cologne. He headed the editorial department of the television magazine Cosmo TV and moderated for Funkhaus Europa . Under the impression of the endangered freedom of expression and freedom of the press in Turkey, the Bingül decided in 2017 to give up his Turkish citizenship.
Bingül was the office manager of WDR director Tom Buhrow . On January 1, 2020, he became head of ARD communication and deputy head of the main department of WDR's directorship.
In 2002 Bingül published his first novel Ping.Pong. about a 27-year-old radio presenter and enthusiastic table tennis player who gets into a life crisis. In the nonfiction book Kein Vaterland, nirgends (2008), he dealt with the creeping loss of solidarity in Germany. His second novel, Der Hodscha und die Piepenkötter , was published in 2011 and was made into a film by ARD in 2016. In 2018, Bingül started a crime series with the Risky Maneuver about the two crisis communication professionals and spin doctors Mats Holm and Laura May.
