Birhanu Legese

Birhanu Legese ( Amharic ብርሃኑ ለገሰ; born September 11, 1994 ) is an Ethiopian long-distance runner .

Career

In 2012 he won the Corrida de Houilles . In 2013 he finished second in the 10 km of Taroudant, third in the World 10K Bangalore and fifth in the 10 km competition of Tout Rennes Court. The following year he was fourth in Taroudant and eighth in the 2014 African Athletics Championships over 5000 m .

In 2015 he won the Berlin half marathon , came third in the Luanda half marathon and came 17th in the Copenhagen half marathon .

In 2015 and 2017 he won the Delhi Half Marathon. In 2019 he finished second in the Berlin Marathon .

In March 2020 he won the Tokyo Marathon in a time of 2:04:15 h. Around 40,000 starters were originally expected at this race of the World Marathon Majors , but due to the coronavirus pandemic , only 200 elite athletes were allowed to start in the Japanese capital.
