The diocese of Mindelo ( Latin Dioecesis Mindelensis ) with seat in Mindelo is a Roman Catholic diocese in Cape Verde . It has a size of 2,230 km² and includes the northern Cape Verde .

It is immediate , that is, not under an archbishopric but directly subordinated to the Holy See .

history

The diocese was removed on December 9, 2003 from the immediate diocese of Santiago de Cabo Verde . The newly established diocese had 149,230 Catholics (95%) in 14 parishes with 19 priests (including seven diocesan priests ), 17 friars and 53 religious sisters when it was founded .

Pope Benedict XVI appointed on January 25, 2011 the Fidei Donum priest , Chancellor of the Diocese of Mindelo and Pastor of the Parish of São Vicente , Augusto dos Santos Lopes Fortes, Bishop of Mindelo.
