history

The diocese Palayamkottai was on May 17, 1973 by Pope Paul VI. established with the Apostolic Constitution Romani Pontifices from cessions of territory of the Archdiocese of Madurai and subordinated to this as a suffragan .

The diocese includes the Palayamkottai in the district Tirunelveli located taluks Alangulam , Ambasamudram , Cheranmadevi , Palayamkottai , Pudur , Sankarankoil , Shenkottai , Sivagiri , Tenkasi and Tirunelveli and the in the district Thoothukudi located Taluk Kovilpatti in the state of Tamil Nadu .
