The diocese of Puqi ( Latin : Dioecesis Puchivanus ) is a Roman Catholic diocese based in Puqi in the People's Republic of China .

history

Pope Pius XI founded the Apostolic Prefecture of Puchi with the Breve Quo christiani on December 12, 1923 from cessions of territory by the Apostolic Vicariate of East Hubei . Odoric Simon Tcheng OFM was among the first six Chinese bishops to be elected by Pope Pius XI. were ordained bishop in Rome on October 28, 1926.

With the Apostolic Constitution Qui universum it was elevated to a diocese on May 10, 1951. The diocese remained without a bishop for a long time.
