The diocese of Vijayapuram was founded on July 14, 1930 by Pope Pius XI. built from cession of territory of the Archdiocese of Verapoly and subordinated to this as a suffragan .

The diocese of Vijayapuram comprises the districts of Alappuzha , Ernakulam , Idukki , Kottayam and Pathanamthitta in the state of Kerala .
