Black Dog Barking -
Single release
March 25.2013 Live It Up

Black Dog Barking is the third studio album of the Australian hard rock - band Airbourne . It was released in Germany on May 17, 2013 and is the first studio album after No Guts. No glory. from 2010.

History of origin

In 2012 the band took a break and as a result did not give any concerts. Towards the end of the year the band began work on a new album. In contrast to its predecessor, which was produced by Johnny K, Brian Howes ( Nickelback , Skillet ) was signed for Black Dog Barking . The individual songs were mixed by Jay Van Poederooyen. In January 2013 Airbourne announced that the final touches would be done on the new album. A month later, May 21 was announced as the release date. Like its predecessors, Black Dog Barking was also sold under Roadrunner Records . The cover was released on March 13th. On March 25, the band released the album's first single, Live It Up . A corresponding music video was presented on the Internet on April 17th and was filmed on March 28th. On the Soundcloud page of the webzine Revolvermag.com four days before the release in Germany, the complete album was available as a stream on their SoundCloud page.

To the songs

  • All compositions were written by Joel O'Keeffe and his brother Ryan. For No One Fits Me (Better Than You) , Back in the Game , Firepower , Live It Up , Woman Like That , Cradle to the Grave and Black Dog Barking , producer Brian Howes was also involved in the songwriting. In Animalize Kevin Churko was reported as co-author. He also mixed the vocals for the song.
  • The opener Ready to Rock already appeared on the Extended Play of the same name from 2004, which is the band's first release and thus attracted the interest of the major labels. Some parts of this track come from the song Rock 'n' Roll , which was released on a compilation in 2002 under the name Airborne.
  • The sound effects of Live It Up in the first half of the song are from Tim McCann. The song also became the official soundtrack for the WWE Extreme Rules wrestling festival . A special version of the song will also be used as the soundtrack for the Full Throttle roller coaster park at Six Flags Magic Mountain in California, which will open in spring.

Charts and chart placements

Black Dog Barking was Airbourne's most successful album to date in many countries . In Austria it came in eleventh place (predecessor in place 13), in Great Britain in place 22 (predecessor in place 31), in the USA in place 89 (predecessor in place 90) and in Australia in place 17 (predecessor in place 19 ). Like its predecessor, the album reached ninth place in Switzerland. In Germany, Airbourne placed fifth, one position worse than their predecessor No Guts. No glory. reception

The album was positively received by the majority of the critics. Reviewer Anzo Sadoni of the German magazine Metal Hammer judged that Black Dog Barking breathed so much "debut air" "that it made the 'Devilhorns' swing skyward", as the direct predecessor No Guts. No glory. from his point of view was too mixed. Both faster pieces like Ready to Rock , Live It Up or Hungry as well as "cool groover" like Animalize , Back in the Game or the title track would be convincing. The final rating was six out of seven possible points.

In Rock Hard was Black Dog Barking voted album of the month. Author Thomas Kupfer spoke of an immediate "changing of the guard" compared to their role models AC / DC , as they would hardly reach the level of Airbourne : "The foursome is still electrified, has retained its snotty, authentic style and goes into things Arrangements more carefully than before. Hardly anyone is currently writing similar stadium-suitable refrains as those in ´Animalize Me´ (Def Leppard on the brutal tour, anyone?), The mid-tempo groover ´Back In The Game´ or the one from our last Eavesdropping "-CD known ´Live It Up´, without crossing the border to kitsch or outrageously copying the old heroes." He then awarded a grade of 8.5 out of ten possible points.

Kai Butterweck awarded four out of five possible stars on Laut.de. He praised the fact that the band "easily makes the tried and tested sound fresh and crisp" without permanent changes. This album also laid the foundations for being in line with bands like AC / DC and the Ramones at a later date .

Track list

The album is Airbourne's shortest album to date, both in terms of track selection and length. Black Dog Barking appeared in three versions. A standard version, a special edition with three bonus tracks, and a bonus CD with an audio recording of the performance at Wacken Open Air 2011. In a third version, the special edition was a T-shirt with the album cover designed by Ben Couzens offered in a box.
