The Blaue Balje is a sea gate in the southeastern North Sea in the outer mouth of the Jade .

It runs in a north-south direction between the East Frisian islands of Wangerooge and Minsener Oog . The main channel is divided into the three channels Telegraphenbalje , Mittelbalje and Minsener Balje in the southern area . The location and depth of the fairway in the Blauen Balje are subject to constant changes.

On the eastern tip of the island of Wangerooge are the remains of the former ship pier Ostanleger . The pier was abandoned in 1958 and has been falling into disrepair ever since. From 1905 to 1958, the east pier was the main pier on the island, to which the island railway was also connected. On the east side of Wangerooge, as on the other East Frisian islands, a lot of sand is deposited, so that the east jetty could not be approached due to silting. The necessary dredging at the east jetty was no longer worthwhile, so that the jetty was shut down in 1958 and the eastern section of the island railway was dismantled.
