The so-called Blauwestad ( German Blue City ; also called De Blauwe Stad or Blauwe stad ) is a new residential area in the Dutch region of East Groningen , between the towns of Winschoten , Midwolda, Oostwold, Finsterwolde and Scheemda . The place belongs to the municipality of Oldambt and is part of the Blauwestad project, which is primarily intended to give an economic boost to the economy in the region, which is part of East Groningen.
The area consists of approx. 1500 houses with areas of 700 to 7400 m² spread over five separate living areas: “De Wei”, “Het Riet”, “Het Park”, “Het Dorp” and “Het Wold”. The houses mostly belong to the more expensive price ranges. A house in “Het Dorp” costs around 250,000 euros in the lower price ranges and around 250,000 euros in the higher price ranges, in which one can find a house with many extras, such as B. your own boat parking space directly at the house, gets around one million euros. The project is expected to be completed in 2016. The residential area is located on a former lake, "Oldambtmeer", which was a cornerstone of the "Blauwestad" project.
On May 12, 2005, Queen Beatrix opened the water supply. In spring 2007, the first houses around the artificial lake were completed and the residents moved in. The project also has some opponents. The local Communist Party (United Communist Party, VCP) in particular has made many attempts to block the project.
