Güldish silver

Güldischsilber or view silver is selected from gold and silver existing contamination or the silver-rich alloy with gold and platinum metals mentioned, which after Kupellation of lead produced. Instead of cupellation one speaks in this context of bustle. The corresponding furnace is called a driving furnace. Another separation takes place through the silver electrolysis .

Work lead can contain up to 5% impurities such as copper , tin , antimony , arsenic , bismuth or precious metals such as silver and gold in varying proportions, and this purification and marketing of Güldi's silver increases the profitability and profitability of lead smelters considerably.

The adjective Güldisch for "gold-containing" has been used in the miners' language since the 16th, more often since the 18th century.

Extraction of look silver from lead ores

Ores such as galena (PbS) are first roasted in order to convert them from a sulfur compound into a lead oxide. If the lead oxide is reduced, raw lead or work lead is produced . Raw lead often contains between 0.01 and 1% silver.

If necessary, after further enrichment steps, the lead-silver alloy is refined . During the driving work, the alloy is melted in a driving furnace . Air is blown through the melt . The lead oxidizes to lead (II) oxide . The precious metal silver, on the other hand, does not oxidize. The floating lead oxide forms a matt layer on the melt. This layer is continuously removed or absorbed by the specially prepared walls of the crucible. Finally, only a very thin, shimmering oxide membrane is formed. The tearing open of the oxide skin reveals the liquid silver that is left over ( silver view ). The alloy now available is called "Blicksilber". Blicksilber consists of over 950/1000 silver.
