Bliss is a Swiss a cappella - Quintet denies that comedic in German-speaking show programs with known cover songs.

history

Bliss was created in 1999 when six of them got together at the Heerbrugg Teachers' College to rehearse a vocal performance for Tolfo's brother's birthday. According to the band, the result was not a vocal masterpiece at first, but they enjoyed singing together. After the first small appearances, the CD original sound followed in 2004 and with Herrlich Dämlich the first conceived program in which men, not to be taken very seriously, were supposed to bring different types of women closer to men.

Then Bliss were on the road with their second program SuperStern , in which the singers mime the catering team of a casting show and try to explain to the audience step by step how to become a superstar (here 'superstar'). In contrast to Herrlich Dämlich , the focus was placed even more on the framework plot , between the songs not only was moderation, but scenes were actually acted out. Accordingly, only the profiles of the stage roles were found on the band's website, but not those of the actual singers. The program premiered on October 27, 2007, the Dernière took place on December 3, 2010 in the Schalotte Theater in Berlin. The CD for the program was released in 2009. In addition to appearances in Switzerland, Bliss became better known with SuperStern also in neighboring German-speaking countries and had their first appearances in Berlin and Bonn. In addition, with the program, Bliss received their first engagement in the Swiss touring theater Das Zelt .

The third Euromission program started in 2011 . In contrast to SuperStern , there wasn't just a framework, but a solid story. The program accompanies a fictitious Swiss representation at the Eurovision Song Contest from the press conference of the previous day to the sound check and the actual show. Also with Euromission Bliss toured again with Das Zelt , the premiere also took place on January 2nd, 2011 as part of Das Zelt in Bern. The Dernière was on September 20, 2013 in the Bierhübeli , also in Bern. For the program, a studio CD was released in advance in 2010 (not completely congruent with the program setlist and, like SuperStern, produced by Lunik guitarist Luk Zimmermann), as well as a DVD recorded in Plaza Zurich in 2013 , which was released at the time of the Dernière. The broadcaster SRF1 also broadcast a 60-minute recording of the show on May 20, 2013.

In November and December 2012 Bliss performed their first Christmas program Merry Blissmas , for which a studio CD was also released. It was the first to appear on the major label Universal Switzerland. In the following year, the band toured with a heavily revised version under the name Merry Blissmas - The Second Gift , which was performed again in 2014 (again under the shortened title Merry Blissmas ). In 2013, Bliss also competed in the A-Cappella-Award Ulm and took 2nd place.

The sixth program The premiere had its premiere on February 14, 2014. The framework for the show was the real-time course of a failed show premiere. After the use of stage names at SuperStern and Euromission , the singers first used their real names on stage again. Also, similar to SuperStern , the general plot could again be designed more freely and offered more opportunities to swap or delete scenes than with Euromission . The CD for the show, which was recorded completely live and thus contains songs as well as presentations and rehearsed dialogues, was released on April 25, 2014 and gave Bliss the first chart position in the band's history. It stayed at number 42 on the Swiss album charts for a week. The DVD recordings for the program should take place from 26.-28. August 2014 in the Lokremise St. Gallen, but were postponed for the time being in June 2014. The DVD was recorded on May 19, 2015 in the Casinotheater Winterthur and released on September 26, 2015. After 150 performances of Die Premiere , the program celebrated its Dernière on January 16, 2016 in the Casino in Burgdorf.

In July 2014, Bliss competed in Vokal.Total Graz , an international a cappella competition, in the comedy and pop categories. In both categories they won first place in the jury evaluation and gold diplomas, and in the comedy category they also received the audience award.

From December 5th to 23rd, 2015, Bliss were on tour with another major overhaul of their Christmas program, this time under the title Merry Blissmas - or whatever you always wanted to know about Christmas . In contrast to the start of the program series in 2012, the program only contained a few pure covers of Christmas carols, but was mainly based on covers with completely new texts and longer skits. The premiere was in the Stadtcasino Basel, Dernière in Das Zelt in Bern. The tour included 13 concerts at 12 venues. It was accompanied by the release of another Christmas CD, Merry Blissmas 2 , the song list of which is largely congruent with the 2015 version of the stage program.

Since February 20, 2016, Bliss have been on tour in Germany with Tell's Angels . Musically, the program consists of a cross-section of the preliminary programs. There is no fixed framework this time. The band speaks standard German on stage. A CD has also been put together for the German market under the title Tell's Angels , which consists of studio and live recordings from the other publications and contains most of the songs in the program.

When founding member Hiesch left in January 2016, the band, which had always been formed as a sextet, became a quintet.

Trivia

As is customary in the a cappella industry, Bliss take part in individual concerts in a cappella festivals, nights or theme weeks, for example the Pantheon A-Cappella-Festival in Bonn, Sparkassen-A-Cappella-Festival in Dortmund, a-cappella Festival Appenzell , A Cappella Festival Dresden or Vokal Total A-Cappella-Festival in Munich. In 2011, Bliss organized the Bliss and friends, 1st international a cappella festival in Murten, together with the befriended bands medlz and Viva Voce .

On some tracks on their studio CDs and in rare cases also live, Bliss use percussion instruments, beyond that they are a pure a cappella band.

Because of their founding history, Bliss are often referred to by the press as “singing teachers”. With the exception of Galliker and Szlovák, all of them had teaching activities in the past, but today (as of 2014) only a small number of singers work by the hour in this profession, because Bliss has long been a main occupation. Hobi is also active as a musical singer and, for example, played the male lead in 2011 in Gotthelf - The Musical at the Thuner Seespiele and in 2013/2014 in Moses - The 10 Commandments of the St. Gallen Theater . He was also pregnant as a youth singer for the band . Before joining Bliss, Szlovák was a singer in the Hungarian a cappella group Vocal Faces and joined X-Faktor Hungary in 2010.

In 2009 Bliss shot a video for their cover of Wham! S Last Christmas in Saas Fee , which was supposed to recreate the original one-to-one. The cut, story and rooms are almost identical, and the style of the 80s (the original is from 1984) is imitated in every detail.
