The tent (theater)
The tent (spelling: DAS ZELT ) is a Swiss touring theater with a mobile tent infrastructure that travels to German-speaking Switzerland , French -speaking Switzerland and Ticino all year round . Comedians , musicians and theater artists from Switzerland appear in “Das Zelt” on the one hand, and international entertainers on the other . From 2013 to 2017 PostFinance became the main partner and “DAS ZELT” was given the name “Chapiteau PostFinance”. As of 2018, Heineken and Mövenpick will be the official partners and the suffix “Chapiteau PostFinance” will be dissolved again. The touring theater was a guest at 21 locations across Switzerland until 2014. As of 2015, the operation was expanded to 23 locations and is now guesting for the first time with three tents in different locations at the same time.
"Das Zelt" was originally conceived as a culture and event platform for Arteplage Biel as part of Expo.02 . After the financing was canceled, the tightrope walker David Dimitri and the lawyer and bicycle artist Adrian Steiner realized the project on a private basis. In 2003 "Das Zelt" went on its first tour through German-speaking Switzerland as a mobile theater under the direction of Adrian Steiner. From 2007, “Das Zelt” also stopped at various venues in French and Italian Switzerland and the “Children's tent ” was founded. With the integration of a second theater stage in the tent city, parallel performances were possible for the first time from 2008. Today “Das Zelt” is the only remaining Expo.02 project and is visited by an average of 200,000 people a year.
