The Blount Nunatak is a 1630 m high and distinctive nunatak in the East Antarctic Queen Elizabeth Land . In the west side of the Forrestal Range in the Pensacola Mountains it rises 5 km southwest of Mount Lechner .
It was discovered on January 13, 1956 during the transcontinental non-stop Antarctic flight of the United States Navy between McMurdo Sound and the Weddell Sea, including the return flight. The Advisory Committee on Antarctic Names named the Nunatak in 1957 after Hartford E. Blount (1925-2001), aircraft engineer of the VX-6 flight squadron during Operation Deep Freeze , during which this flight was carried out.
