history

BlueJeans Network was founded by Krish Ramakrishnan and Alagu Periyannan in 2009 after a six-month development phase. Prior to founding Ramakrishnan was as Entrepreneur of Accel Partners and Periyannan as CTO of Blue Coat Systems as well as a former executive at Apple Inc operates.

BlueJeans' former chief commercial officer, Stu Aaron, described the company's early stages as an attempt to “make video conferencing as comfortable and convenient as your favorite jeans.” With Ramakrishnan as CEO, BlueJeans raised $ 23.5 million in equity from Accel Partners , NEA and Norwest Venture Partners for to win and launch BlueJeans on June 29, 2011.

After the launch, Channel Insider wrote that “BlueJeans enables companies and individuals to not only use company-oriented products such as Cisco Systems and Polycom, but also various video communication technologies and customer-oriented offers, for example from Google, without the need for new infrastructures or protocols are necessary. Basically, BlueJeans uses the cloud and thus creates a meeting environment in which users of all products can visually communicate and interact with one another. "

The company's goal was to provide video communications not only for large businesses, but also to include smaller businesses and freelancers. Within the first 75 days, the number of users rose to 4,000 out of a total of 500 companies. After the market launch, Deutsche Telekom became the first major sales partner. The goal of both companies was to develop a “scalable, interoperable video conferencing service by the end of the year.” In 2011 and 2012, additional sales partners were added: Intercall, iVCI, York Telecom and AVI / SPL. BlueJeans have been used by more than 300,000 people worldwide. In 2013, BlueJeans Network expanded its user base to include the UK and Australia. In November 2013, Ari Levy ( Business Week) wrote that "BlueJeans has raised over $ 100 million in venture capital and will record an estimated 1 billion conference minutes in 2014, which is 10 times that year."

Video communication

BlueJeans offers an interoperable, cloud-based video communication service that connects users of various devices, platforms and conference programs. Every BlueJeans user has an individual “conference room” in the BlueJeans Cloud, in which he can plan and hold conferences. BlueJeans thus combines business conference services such as Cisco, Microsoft Lync, Lifesize and Polycom with end-consumer services such as Google . According to Information Week, “BlueJeans is best known for bridging room-based video conferences to end customer solutions such as Google Talk. The goal of BlueJeans is to make video conferencing just as simple as audio conferencing. ”This service can be provided directly via BlueJeans Network or via one of the partner companies. BlueJeans Network has been supporting InterCall's video conferencing service since 2012.

CRN described BlueJeans' product as "endpoint agnostic" because it is non-discriminatory and compatible with all video calling software and technology, including smartphones. This also enables bridging between video conference service providers who operate without a room system, regardless of which terminal device or service is used.

Telecompaper wrote in 2012 that the “interoperable video conferencing service provider BlueJeans Network is providing a Multipoint Control Unit (MCU) which offers customers the option of participating in multi-way video conferences in the cloud. This offer enables a variable number of simultaneous connections (so-called "virtual ports") to be permitted by BlueJeans. "

Fortune's Michal Lev-Ram wrote that “The company is largely an extension - not a threat - to existing video conferencing providers. Whichever provider ultimately comes out on top, there is no question that interoperability is inevitable in the video conferencing industry, much like text messaging is for cell phones. The more benefits business customers can get from their video conferencing systems, the more they will invest in them. ”In contrast, Ari Levy reported in 2013 that BlueJeans Network and similar services, thanks to their great flexibility and market presence at smaller companies, are more room-based Hardware system developers decrease. In the same year, BlueJeans Network and Salesforce.com entered into a partnership, which enabled all Salesforce customers to use the “Chatter” tool to communicate via video through BlueJeans. According to Forbes , "BlueJeans provides real-time presentation, document and video sharing for Salesforce customers." BlueJeans' customers include Facebook , Foursquare and MIT .
