Boaz Island is a flat island on the Great Sound in the northwest of the Atlantic archipelago of Bermuda . It is located southwest of Ireland Island (South Island) and northeast of Somerset Island , with which it is connected by bridges .
Watford Island , just off the south coast, is now firmly connected to Boaz Island by a navigable dam and is therefore often viewed as part of it.
Boaz Island was formerly (from 1933) a base of the British naval forces ( Royal Navy ). There is still a military cemetery from this period on Watford Island .
The military base has been abandoned for several years ; only civilians live here today .
Boaz Island is part of Sandys Parish County .
