Robert "Bob" C. McNair (born January 1, 1937 in Tampa , Florida - † November 23, 2018 in Houston , Texas ) was an American entrepreneur and owner of the Houston Texans , an American football team of the National Football League (NFL).

Life

McNair was born in Tampa, Florida in 1937 and grew up in Forest City , North Carolina . He graduated from the University of South Carolina at Columbia . In 1958 he left the university with a Bachelor of Science degree .

He founded Cogen Technologies , which was sold to Enron and CalPERS in 1999 for $ 1.5 billion . In 1998 he founded the Houston Texans Holding ; since October 6, 1999, the Houston Texans are the 32nd team in the National Football League (NFL). He secured this franchise for $ 700 million.

McNair contracted skin cancer in 1994 and had struggled with cell disease and lymphatic leukemia for several years . He passed away in a Houston hospital on November 23, 2018. He leaves behind a wife and four children.
