Bob Willis Trophy

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Bob Willis Trophy is a first-class national cricket competition in England and Wales and will be held from August 1 to September 26, 2020. The competition replaces the 2020 season of the County Championship, which was not held due to the COVID-19 pandemic .

prehistory

The first round of the 2020 County Championship was originally scheduled for April 12th and should end with the final round on September 25th, 2020. Initially the season was postponed until May 28th, then until July. The United Arab Emirates also offered to host parts of the English season. On June 29th, the ECB announced that the season would start on August 1st, which was confirmed by the counties on July 7th.

format

The 18 First Class Counties were divided into three groups according to regional criteria and each play a game against the five group opponents. A team received 16 points for a win and 8 points for a draw (both teams achieve the same number of runs). If no result could be achieved and the game ended in a draw, both teams received 8 points. In addition, there was the opportunity to collect bonus points in the first 110 overs of the first inning . Up to 5 points were given for runs and up to 3 points for wickets. The first innings is capped at 120 overs for both teams. Furthermore, it is possible that teams were deducted points if, for example, they played too slowly or the pitch was not properly prepared. The two best-placed teams contest the final.
