Robert Randall Bragan (born October 30, 1917 in Birmingham , Alabama , † January 21, 2010 in Fort Worth , Texas ) was an American shortstop , catcher , baseball manager and coach in Major League Baseball . He was also an influential leader in minor league baseball . He was born in Birmingham, Alabama .
On August 16, 2005, Bragan returned from retirement to manage the Fort Worth Cats for a game. That made him the oldest professional baseball manager in history at 87 years, nine months, and 16 days (beating Connie Mack's record by a week). He was known for his pioneering spirit, his sense of humor and his talent for provoking the umpires . Bragan was kicked out in the third inning of his comeback, becoming the oldest person to be sent off in a professional baseball game.
Bragan died of a heart attack at his Fort Worth home on January 21, 2010 .
