Robert Stanley "Bobby" Donaldson (* 29. November 1922 in Boston , Massachusetts , † 2. July 1971 ) was an American jazz drummer of Swing .

Live and act

Bobby Donaldson first played in local bands in the early 1940s; during the military service he served in New Yeok, he played with Russell Procope . 1946/47 he worked for Cat Anderson and went on tour with him; afterwards he worked in the bands of Edmond Hall , Andy Kirk , Lucky Millinder , Buck Clayton , Red Norvo , and Sy Oliver / Louis Armstrong . Donaldson was considered a distinguished session musician in the 1950s and 1960s and was involved in numerous record productions, including Helen Merrill , Ruby Braff , Mel Powell , Benny Goodman , Count Basie , Bobby Jaspar , Herbie Mann , Andre Hodeir , Kenny Burrell , Lonnie Johnson , Frank Wess , Willis Jackson and Johnny Hodges . He also recorded albums under his own name, such as the 1958 album Dixieland Jazz Party for Savoy , on which u. a Rex Stewart , Vic Dickenson , Buster Bailey , Seldon Powell , Al Lucas, and Bucky Pizzarelli performed .
