Bobby Lord
Bobby Lord (* 6. January 1934 in Sanford , Florida ; † 16th February 2008 in Stuart , Florida) was a US -American Country - and Rockabilly singer and songwriter and television presenter .
Life
Childhood and youth
Born in Sanford, Florida, the Bobby Lords family soon moved to Tampa . While he was doing his high school here, he had his first own local television show, the Bobby Lord Homefolks Show . Actually, he was only invited as a guest on the show, but soon he took over the show entirely and got a one-hour Saturday evening broadcast.
Beginnings
He made his first big appearance on the TV show Paul Whitemans in New York because of a talent competition he won. In 1953, the composer Boudleaux Bryant passed a demo cut by Lords to the producer Don Law , who worked for Columbia Records . Shortly thereafter, Columbia signed Lord. His first single was in 1955 with No More, No More, No More! and Why Were You Only Fooling Me? published on the B-side. In the following time he was able to record successes again and again with country and rockabilly titles such as Everybody's Rockin 'But Me , Beautiful Baby and I'm The Devil Who Made Her . At the same time he became a member of the Ozark Jubilee , a television show directed by Red Foley .
Career
When the Ozark Jubilee was canceled in 1960, he moved to Nashville , Tennessee, where he had the opportunity to appear on the Grand Ole Opry , America's most successful and well-known radio show. He would remain a member of the Opry until the mid-1970s. In 1961 he moved from Columbia to Hickory Records, where he released records until 1967. Then he changed the record label again, this time to Decca Records , where he continued to get top 10 and top 20 chart positions. He also hosted his own television show, the Bobby Lord Show . The show's house band also included guitarist Jerry Byrd , who was hugely successful in the 1940s. In 1966 he went on a tour of Europe for the first time , which he repeated several times. In addition to his appearances in the Opry and his own show, he also moderated a country program on the WSM radio station . Lord was also active as a writer. His book Hit the Glory Road was published in 1969.
In the mid-1970s, Lord slowly withdrew from the music scene. As a passionate camper and angler, he hosted the TV show Country Sportsman until the 1980s . After that, Lord retired to his home state to spend more time with his family. Nevertheless, he performed in public until the 1980s, after which he retired as a two-time grandfather.
For the last years of his life, Bobby Lord lived in Jensen Beach (Florida) with his wife Mozelle . He died in February 2008 in a Stuart hospital after a long illness.
