Bobby Todd

Bobby Todd (born June 22, 1904 in Hinterzarten / Baden ; † September 7, 1980 in Turin , Italy ; actually Hans Karl Rohrer ) was a German actor , director , writer and cabaret artist .

Life

Todd, the son of a doctor , studied medicine and theater studies for a few semesters at the University of Munich , but then turned to the acting profession. In Wilhelm Kosch's German Theater Lexicon he is listed as a " dentist ", an indication that could not be verified.

In 1928 he stood in front of a film camera for the first time, in the comedy Miss Evelyne, the bath fair, premiered in 1929 . In 1930 he was one of the co-founders of the student cabaret Die Nachrichtener , which was created on the occasion of a carnival festival of the theater studies seminar , where he stood out as an author, director, composer and actor. His professional cabaret debut is Hier errt Goethe , a production that was shown at the Münchner Kammerspiele in 1932 . Overall, Todd was active from 1930 to 1935, also as co-director, at the cabaret Die Nachrichtener. At the instigation of the Nazis, he was pro forma excluded from the group early on as a “non-Aryans”, but secretly remained a member until the final ban on October 1, 1935. Todd was classified as politically unreliable by the National Socialists and was banned from working in 1935.

In March 1936 Todd left Germany and emigrated to Italy via neutral Switzerland . He was initially a student at the Rome Film Academy and assistant at the “ Centro Sperimentale di Cinematografia ”. From 1936 to 1945 he took on film work in Italy, in Rome he worked as a production assistant.

In 1947 he became head of the entertainment department at Radio München , which existed until 1949, and was the former Reichsender München. He then worked again as an actor and cabaret artist. After the end of the Third Reich, he played a leading role in a film adaptation of a program he co-authored for Die Nachrichtener, Der Apfel ist ab (1948; based on the comedy by Kurd Ε. Heyne), and worked together with Helmut Käutner , who also directed led, on the script.

Todd played numerous minor roles in German films until the 1960s. In particular, Todd cast supporting roles several times in Helmut Käutner's films. He also worked in several fairy tale films that were popular at the time , such as Tischlein deck dich (1956; as father and tailor), Die Heinzelmännchen (1956; as a tailor alongside Nora Minor as a tailor) and Rübezahl - Herr der Berge (1957; as farmer Veit).

Todd lived in Munich in the 1950s, and then back entirely in Italy since 1962. He was married to the actress, dancer and writer Monica von Eyb (pseudonym for Ilse Monica Meyer ).
