Bochum-Mitte is one of six districts in Bochum . The city district includes the city center , Altenbochum , Grumme , Hamme , Hofstede , Hordel and Riemke . In addition, Ehrenfeld belongs to the Mitte district , which belongs to the Wiemelhausen / Brenschede district, which is otherwise assigned to the Bochum-Süd district .
In 2011 the municipality had 100,363 inhabitants on an area of 32.60 km². This makes Bochum-Mitte the largest district in Bochum. The area includes a total of 87 hectares of forest and 34.5 hectares of water.
The Bochum-Mitte district council has 19 seats, which are divided as follows in the current electoral period (2014-2020): 7 SPD, 5 CDU, 3 The Greens, 2 Die Linke, 1 non-attached (formerly AfD), 1 pirate. District mayor is Gabriele Spork (SPD). Deputy district mayors are Birgitt Beier (CDU) and Elke Heuvel (The Greens).
The Bochum-Mitte district can be reached via the A40 and A43 motorways and the A448 . Bochum Central Station is also located in the city district .
