Soil society

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

A soil society is the summary of regionally associated soils at different levels of grouping, depending on the size of the landscape area under consideration and depending on the variation in the factors of pedogenesis .

term

The soil company serves the purpose of representation, e.g. B. on small-scale maps . The word society must not be understood with the meaning of sociology, in economics or law or in everyday language, rather it stands for group or unit . In scientific terms, it is an aggregation .

Another definition is found, according to which the soil society is a "typical combination of soil types that are linked to one another in a (soil) landscape ". The term soil society cards is also used; the criteria can be applied to a given database ( Vergesellschaftung , adjective “ Vergesellschaftet ”).

In cartography , the sensible reduction of information according to the map scale is a generalization . The colors used on a map are usually shown in a legend .

Examples

Examples of soil associations in Baden-Württemberg can be found in the following soil status reports:

(Editor: Ministry of the Environment Baden-Württemberg, 70182 Stuttgart).

Further examples with illustrations can be found in the UIS environmental information system from Baden-Württemberg. The Berlin Senate Department for Urban Development has described some selected soil associations in the Berlin Digital Environmental Atlas (1998 edition). These are definitions and abbreviations such as "BG 1" or "BG 6" are assigned.

Explanation

For example, a soil association for Kehl north of the Kinzig is described as follows: “ Loamy to clayey-loamy Auengleye and brown floodplain soils ”. These are addressed together, e.g. visualized , discussed or analyzed, for traditional (pedogenetic), practical or scientific ( soil science ) reasons - possibly with regard to a given question - using soil information systems if necessary .
