Rothenförde ground weir
The Bodewehr Rothenförde is a weir in the Bode in the area of the Staßfurt district of Rothenförde in Saxony-Anhalt .
History and architecture
Originally, a weir at this point served to regulate the water for a watermill that is no longer in existence . Such a weir has existed there since at least 1704. In 1889 the weir was completely renovated. It was about 30 meters wide. There were five pillars and five gates between the two abutments . This weir was later placed under monument protection and entered in the local monument register under registration number 094 90162 as a monument . In 2008 the weir was no longer considered stable. It was therefore taken out of service and pulled permanently. From 2012, therefore, planning began to renovate the weir. The pillars were to be stabilized by injections and five new gates installed. In addition, a 30 meter long fish ladder was planned. The renovation costs were estimated at € 1.5 million.
During the construction work at the end of August 2014, however, it was discovered that the stability of the weir could not be restored due to the dilapidation of the old pillars. Construction stopped and then the decision to replace the weir with a completely new building. Of the old weir, only the weir plates and the steel superstructure were to remain. The weir was therefore completely demolished in 2014, which expired the monument status. The entry from the list of monuments took place in 2015. The design of the new building attempted in parts to restore the original appearance of the weir. A fish ladder was created on the west side of the weir. The weir is passable for pedestrians as a bridge over the Bode.
On November 9, 2015, the newly built weir was inaugurated in the presence of Minister Hermann Onko Aeikens , the Head of the State Office for Flood Protection and Water Management, Burkhard Henning, District Administrator Markus Bauer , the Lord Mayor of Staßfurt Sven Wagner , members of the State Parliament and numerous residents.
