Bodo Niggemann

Bodo Niggemann (born July 9, 1951 in Adelaide ) is a German doctor for pediatric and adolescent medicine . He worked in the field of allergology and pulmonology .

education and profession

Niggemann attended Ernst-Schlee-Gymnasium in Hamburg, where he graduated from high school in 1971 . He then studied law in Hamburg for two semesters . From 1973 to 1974 he did community service in the Guth private clinic in Hamburg. He then studied 1975-1981 medicine at the Universities of Hamburg and Heidelberg . In 1981 he received his doctorate in Heidelberg on the subject of kidney transplants in children.

Subsequently, Niggemann was a scientific assistant in toxicology at the Hannover Medical School . In 1983 he moved to the University Medical Center Hamburg-Eppendorf and began his specialist training in paediatrics. In 1984 he interned in Magdeburg and Dresden. In 1989 Niggemann was certified as a specialist in paediatrics. From 1990 to 2007 he worked as a senior physician at the Charité Berlin in the field of pediatric pulmonology and allergology. In 1990 he sat in Budapest to learn rigid bronchoscopy . In 1995 he completed his habilitation and was appointed private lecturer at the Humboldt University in Berlin . The title of his habilitation thesis was Investigation of the value of cell-specific inflammatory mediators for the monitoring of allergic and bacterially induced inflammation in vivo . In 2001 he was appointed adjunct professor .

From 2007 to 2012 Niggemann was head of the Center for Pediatric Allergology and Pneumology at the DRK Clinics in Berlin Westend. In 2013 he came back to the Charité, first worked in the allergy center (both in the children's clinic and in the dermatology clinic) and worked as a university lecturer in the model course. From May 2014 to June 2017 Niggemann was acting director of the Clinic for Pediatrics m. S. Pneumology and Immunology at the Charité-Campus Virchow-Klinikum . He retired in 2017.

He is the author of a large number of scientific publications.

Niggemann received a number of awards, including the Charité Albrecht von Graefe Prize in 2001 for outstanding performance in teaching and in 2014 the Daniel Bovet Award for Treatment & Prevention from the European Academy of Allergy and Clinical Immunology (EAACI) “for his constant commitment to the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of allergic diseases in children ”. In 2017 Niggemann received the Lucie Adelsberger Medal from the Society for Pediatric Allergology and Environmental Medicine

He is a member of the following societies and associations: American Academy of Allergy, Asthma and Immunology (AAAAI), Association of German Allergologists (AEDA), German Society for Allergology and Clinical Immunology (DGAKI), German Society for Pediatrics (DGKJ), European Academy of Allergology and Clinical Immunology (EAACI), European Respiratory Society (ERS), Society for Pediatric Allergology (GPA), Society for Pediatric Pneumology (GPP).

Niggemann is married and has four children. He is the drummer in the medical band Real Doctors .

Niggemann is currently working as an artist and photographer.
