geography

Bohnenland is located around 6 kilometers northwest of the city center of Brandenburg, surrounded by the old town forest . It can be reached via the federal road 102 (Rathenower Landstrasse) running to the west and the so-called Schafdamm, an access road that is still partially paved with field stones via the Butterlake residential area to the south . The terrain to the west of the village drops off quite steeply to the shore of Lake Bohnenländer . In the district Bohnenland there is the ground monument Schwedenwwall and the natural monument Bohnenländer oak .

history

Bohnenland emerged on the desert field of the village of Görne, which gave its name to today's Brandenburg district of the same name, Görden . The first mention of the place Bohnenland as a Vorwerk of Brandenburg took place in 1684.

A spinner colony south of the Vorwerk is occupied from 1754, it was built at the instigation of King Frederick II . In 1860 it consisted of nine residential and farm buildings. At that time, the Vorwerk and Bohnenland colony comprised 496 acres of land. In 1872 the Vorwerk ended, which was converted into a forestry department. In 1881 Bohnenland, previously part of the Westhavelland district, was incorporated into the Brandenburg district and became part of the Altstadt district.

At the end of the 19th century, Bohnenland was a popular excursion destination with a restaurant in the northernmost colonist house. In 1906, the Bohnenland stop was opened on the Brandenburg city railway , about two kilometers to the west . The Association of Brandenburger Krankenkassen built a forest rest home near the bus stop according to the plans of the architect Paul Schulze in 1910.

After the end of the Second World War, the substance of the old colony and the Vorwerk gradually disappeared. The small Bohnenland cemetery on the southern edge of the village still has some old gravestones.
