Boksum is a village in the municipality of Waadhoeke in the Dutch province of Friesland . The old Dutch spelling Boxum is no longer in use.

history

Like other villages in Menameradiel, Boksum was once situated on the medieval Middelzee . Parts of the old protective dike are still in place today.

During the Eighty Years' War , the battle of Boksum took place here on January 17, 1586 between Spaniards under Johann Baptista von Taxis and Frisian citizens .

Until 2017, Boksum belonged to the Menameradiel community and with this became part of the newly formed Waadhoeke community on January 1, 2018.
