Franekeradeel On October 1, 1816, the municipality of Tjum was renamed Franekeradeel . On the same day, parts of the territory of the neighboring municipality of Almenum were awarded to her. The municipality of Barradeel and the historic town of Franeker were added on January 1, 1984.
Menameradiel The community Menaldumadeel was created on October 1, 1816 through the merger of the previously independent communities Berlikum, Dronrijp, Marsum and Menaldum. On January 1, 2011 she was given the Frisian name Menameradiel.
Littenseradiel The municipality of Baarderadeel was created on October 1st, 1816 through the merger of the previously independent municipalities of Bozum and Jorwerd. On the same day, OOsterend and Wommels were merged to form the new municipality of Hennaarderadeel. Both communities merged on January 1, 1984 to Littenseradeel. On January 26, 1985, the new municipality was given the Frisian name Littenseradiel.
New municipality The new municipality was created on January 1, 2018 as part of the territorial reforms in the Netherlands, in which the number of municipalities is significantly reduced over a longer period of time. While Het Bildt, Franekeradeel and Menalderadiel were completely absorbed into the new parish, it received the four places Baaium, Spannum, Winsum and Wjelsryp from the dissolved parish Littenseradiel. Westergo was chosen as the working name for the new municipality . As a community name, Waadhoeke was able to prevail against the other two proposals Franeker and Nij-Westergo . The name indicates that the new community is located in a corner on the Wadden Sea.
