De Fryske Marren ( Dutch De Friese Meren ) is a municipality in the Dutch province of Fryslân (Dutch Friesland ). It was created on January 1, 2014 through the amalgamation of the previous municipalities of Gaasterlân-Sleat , Lemsterland and Skarsterlân and the inclusion of parts of the previous municipality of Boarnsterhim . The new municipality has 51,458 inhabitants (as of January 31, 2019).

Fred Veenstra ( CDA ) has been the acting mayor of the municipality since December 1, 2015 . His staff include the alderman Frans Veltman (CDA), Johannes van der Pal ( FNP ), Jos Boerland ( VVD ), Janny Schouwerwou (CDA), Durk Durksz (FNP) and the community secretary Ditta Cazemier.
