Kurt Pflieger

Kurt Pflieger (born May 18, 1890 in Wiesbaden , † September 19, 1958 in Hamburg ) was a German lieutenant general who served as a division commander of the army in World War II .

Life and career

Kurt Pflieger attended the Lichterfelde cadet institute from 1905 . In 1909 he joined the Holstein Field Artillery Regiment No. 24 (FAR-24) in Güstrow as an ensign , where he was promoted to lieutenant in 1910. After attending the field artillery school in Jüterbog, he was appointed department adjutant in the FAR-24 in 1913, with whom he went to the First World War. In 1915 Pflieger was promoted to first lieutenant and appointed regimental adjutant of the FAR-24. At the end of 1915 he was transferred to the staff service of the 17th Infantry Division , then in 1916 as an adjutant to the 17th Field Artillery Brigade. In 1917 he returned to his regiment, now as battery chief . In 1917 Pflieger was promoted to captain. During the First World War he received both levels of the Iron Cross .

After the end of the war, Pflieger was first accepted into the Reichsheer , but in 1920 he left to join the security police. In 1922 he published the war history of his regiment in the series of memorial sheets for German regiments . In 1934 he transferred from the police to the Wehrmacht , where he was again deployed in the artillery branch, first at the Jüterbog Artillery School, then with the Schwerin Artillery Regiment, and later with the 12th Artillery Regiment. 19th Regiment of the 19th Infantry Division and therefore involved in the attack on Poland .

In 1940 he was promoted to major general, and in the spring of 1941 was given command of the 337th Infantry Division serving on the demarcation line in France. From 1942 to 1943 Pflieger was in command of the 31st Infantry Division in the section of Army Group Center on the Eastern Front . In October 1942 he was promoted to lieutenant general there. In July 1943, Pflieger became the commander of the 416th Infantry Division in Aalborg . From October 1944 he was deployed with this division on the Western Front and led it until the end of the war. In February 1945 he received the Knight's Cross .

On May 3, 1945, Pflieger fell into Allied captivity in Klein Krankow near Wismar and was interned in Special Camp XI in England. In 1948 he was released.
