The Bolshaya Loptjuga ( Russian Большая Лоптюга ) is a left tributary of the Mesen in the Komi Republic in northwestern Russia .

It rises near the border with Arkhangelsk Oblast northwest of the settlement Jarenga on the watershed between the river systems of the Mesen and the Northern Dvina . It flows first in an easterly direction, later in a northerly direction. The road between Mikun and Koslan runs east of the lower reaches and crosses the Bolshaya Loptjuga not far from the river mouth.

The Bolshaya Loptjuga has a length of 160 km. It drains an area of 2030 km². It is mainly fed by the snowmelt. In May, during the spring floods , the river overflows its banks. At the Butkan gauge , 5.8 km above the mouth, the mean discharge is 19.6 m³ / s.

The most important tributary is the iodine (Ёд), which flows into the Bolshaya Loptjuga on the left in the middle course.
