Bonface Ontuga Mweresa gained his first international experience at the Junior World Championships 2012 in Barcelona , where he took seventh place in the 400-meter run with 46.50 seconds. He then took part in the Kenyan 4 x 400 meter relay at the Olympic Games in London and was disqualified there in the run-up to a collision. In 2015 he took part in the World Relays in the Bahamas , where he was again disqualified in the B final with the 4 x 400 meter relay. At the Africa Games in Brazzaville he won the silver medal behind the Botswanian Isaac Makwala in the individual competition over 400 meters in 45.01 seconds . He also won the gold medal with the relay in 3: 00.34 minutes. In 2016 he qualified for the World Indoor Championships in Portland , where he finished fifth in the final with 46.86 s. At the African Championships in Durban he won the silver medal in 3: 04.25 min with the relay behind Botswana .
In 2017 he won the B final at the World Relays with the 4 x 400 meter relay and qualified for the World Championships in London , where he was eliminated in the semifinals with 45.93 s . In 2018 he again took part in the Commonwealth Games in the Australian Gold Coast , where he reached the semi-finals over 400 meters. In addition, he was disqualified with the Kenyan relay in the finals after the relay first came in third.
