Emergence

The Bonamese community became a church branch of the neighboring Kalbach community in 1882 . Since the number of parishioners rose to almost 550 at the end of the 1920s, the need for a place of worship arose. The building of the chapel was made possible through house collections, begging letters, collections, donations and a large building grant from the Bonifatiusverein. The building plot at the confluence of Bonameser Hainstraße and Obere Kalbacher Weg was contributed by the Kalbach community. The foundation stone was laid on Easter Monday 1932, the benediction took place on March 19, 1933.

architecture

During the world economic crisis , Martin Weber designed the chapel as a wooden frame structure with extremely economical means . The design is based on an octagonal floor plan. The room width is fourteen and the height to the eaves is seven meters. A tent roof emphasizes the concept of the central building . The walls are lined between the wooden supports and were originally lightly plastered from the outside. Horizontally structured windows are arranged between the wall and the roof in the south. The external appearance thus bears clear traits of the Gustav Adolf Church in neighboring Niederursel . The entrance to the chapel was originally in the south. On entering one looked at the choir niche with the altar. Inside, the room was centered on the one hand due to the shape of the floor plan and, on the other hand, aligned with the altar due to the type of seating. The chapel had 160 seats. The sacristy was connected to the west. The interior is dominated by wood, from which the columns, wall and roof cladding are made. In the southern bell cradle there is a bell that was purchased in the 1950s to replace a bell that was requisitioned in World War II.

Changes to the chapel due to the neighboring church

In the 1960s, the new St. Boniface Church was built on the neighboring property . For the new church, the sacristy of the chapel was laid down and a new entrance was created for both places of worship. Adjoining rooms were built in the area of the former, now closed entrance in the south. Inside, the originally natural wood was given a black glaze in the 1970s. The current dark impression of the room is therefore significantly different than it used to be. The chapel was rededicated and has been used as a parish hall ever since. It is a listed building. The parish of St. Bonifatius is now part of the pastoral area of Frankfurt-Nordrand.
