The Boningraben ( Japanese 伊豆 ・ 小 笠原 海溝 , Izu - Ogasawara kaikō , English Izu-Bonin Trench or Izu-Ogasawara Trench ) is a deep sea channel up to 10,554 m deep and 1,100 km long in the northwestern part of the Pacific Ocean .

In the northeast, the Japangraben is separated by the Sagami Trench and the Mariana Trench in the south . It is located between the Northwest Pacific Basin in the northeast, the Marcus Necker Ridge in the east, the Mariana Basin in the southeast and the Philippines Basin in the west and lies between about 27 and 35 ° north latitude and between 142 and 143 ° east longitude .

The Boning Rift forms part of the deeply carved seam of the Philippine plate in the west and the Pacific plate in the east, creating the Izu and Ogasawara Islands. Together with the Mariana Islands , these form the Izu Bonin Mariana Islands arch .
