The bonus markets are a chain of grocery retail chains based in Stuttgart with charitable goals. They belong to BONUS - Berufliche Orientation, Neighborhood Shops and Service gGmbH , which in turn is a subsidiary of SBR - non-profit association for training and professional reintegration mbH in Stuttgart. BONUS gGmbH was founded in 2003 and currently (as of October 2009) operates 30 supermarkets in Baden-Württemberg, twelve of them in Stuttgart and three in Bavaria. The German bonus chain has nothing to do with the Icelandic supermarket chain Bónus .

Business goals

According to their own statements, BONUS gGmbH and the parent company SBR gGmbH aim to improve the skills of people who have fewer opportunities in the job market . This includes the training, employment and qualification of socially disadvantaged young people and the long-term unemployed, for example. The task of the bonus markets is to impart the relevant specialist knowledge of the food retail sector.

In addition, the bonus markets have the special task of ensuring the local supply of food in districts and smaller communities and counteracting the desertification of the town centers. The establishment of supermarkets is therefore often funded by the local Federal Employment Agency and the respective municipality.
