Möhringen auf den Fildern is a district in the south of Stuttgart . It borders the Stuttgart districts of Vaihingen , Stuttgart-Süd , Degerloch and Plieningen as well as the city of Leinfelden-Echterdingen .

history

In early documents, between 1100 and 1300, the name Moringen is used for the first time, an indication of Alemannic settlement. Initially the Counts of Calw and the Count Palatine of Tübingen , from 1295 the Katharinenspital Esslingen in possession of Möhringen, until it finally came to Württemberg in 1803 . In the Kingdom of Württemberg , which was founded in 1806 , the community initially belonged to the Oberamt Esslingen , then from 1807 to the Oberamt Stuttgart and before the Second World War from 1938 temporarily to the district of Böblingen, until April 1, 1942, it was incorporated into Stuttgart. Möhringen has been part of Stuttgart since then.

When the city of Stuttgart was divided into districts in 1956, the Möhringen district was combined with the Fasanenhof and Sonnenberg districts to form the Möhringen district.

Fasanenhof

The Fasanenhof was laid out in 1730 as a pheasantry by Duke Eberhard Ludwig von Württemberg in the Kleinaichen district in Echterdingen and expanded by his successor, Karl Alexander .

Duke Carl Eugen and his wife Franziska von Hohenheim expanded the complex considerably: in 1783 they had a pleasure palace built with gardens. The castle, built in the attic style, was a simple two-story residential building. The entire facility was named Fasanenhof .

The wife of his brother Friedrich Eugen (the progenitor of the Württemberg royal family) rebuilt the park. An elongated lake with two artificial islands was created. On one of the islands there was a mosque and on the other a temple in honor of the flower goddess Flora . After this the plant got the name Floride .

In 1799 the farm was sold to the lawyer Karl Ludwig. After his death in 1805, the forester Johann Friedrich Hammer bought the area. The parks became overgrown and the farm was given an agricultural purpose. The forest around the castle was almost completely cut down and made available for farming. The soil was not as fertile as on other fields on the Filder Plain, but there were rich meadows and so the owners were able to keep a considerable number of livestock. The cheese dairy at that time was known for its Munster cheese. The Hofdomänenkammer as the private asset management of the royal family bought the Fasanenhof in 1854 from the farmers Georg Murthum and Christophreiber and leased it. The estate was expanded to 88.5 hectares through acquisitions. On October 7, 1941, the Hofkammer sold the Hofgut to the city of Stuttgart for settlement purposes.

The following tenants ran the farm:

  • Christoph Driver, Echterdingen (1854–1855)
  • Michael Hahn, Köngen (1855-1858)
  • Friedrich Reihlen & Sons, Sugar Factory Stuttgart (1858–1873)
  • Friedrich Adolph Reihlen (1873–1877)
  • Sugar factory Stuttgart (1877–1933)
  • Gustav Ergenzinger, Kornwestheim, and his son-in-law Karl Bodenhöfer (1933–1940)

In 1942 the Fasanenhof residential area was separated from the community of Echterdingen and incorporated into the city of Stuttgart.

Fasan 2 skyscraper

In 1959, the urban planning office drafted the development plan for a large estate with 10,000 inhabitants. With the Fasanenhof, a purely residential area was to be created, which in the planning should include three twenty-story high-rise residential buildings and two groups of two eight-story disc-shaped residential buildings. In terms of infrastructure, a primary and secondary school, three kindergartens / day-care centers, three churches with community centers, a senior citizens' housing complex, a model housing complex for the physically handicapped, a youth center, a main center with shops, two secondary centers, a wide range of play and leisure areas, and a club house were added Restaurant and sports facilities planned.

At the beginning of 1960 the first apartments on the Fasanenhof were ready for occupancy. The main construction phase was completed in 1968. Today the Fasanenhof is characterized by many green areas. There is little through traffic and the sidewalks are lowered to make it suitable for prams and people with disabilities. Stuttgart city center can be reached in half an hour by public transport. Shops are plentiful and easily accessible on foot. The district town hall and citizens' office in Möhringen offers almost all the services of the city administration and is easy to reach. Two kindergartens, a day-care center and the first all-day school in Stuttgart offer childcare options. This offer is supported by the child and youth center and the child and youth work of the ev. And cath. Parishes rounded. Assisted living has been possible on the Fasanenhof for years; since 2006 further apartments and a nursing home have been available.

During the reorganization of the Europaplatz supply center, the old Europaplatz was demolished in 2011 and will be replaced by several building complexes consisting of a shop and service center, restaurants, day-care center and apartments.

Sonnenberg

The Sonnenberg was used as a vineyard for centuries . A vine disease led to the abandonment of viticulture in the late 19th century . Then the Möhringer Brewery Widmaier planted hop gardens on the Sonnenberg. From 1890, there were also isolated orchards on the Sonnenberg, in which mainly espalier fruit was grown. In the years 1897 and 1900 the first two summer and weekend cottages were built on the Sonnenberg. In 1903 the first residential buildings, villa-like buildings in the middle of large properties, and today's Gasthof Sonnenberg were built. The restaurant in a panoramic position made the Sonnenberg a popular destination.

In 1903 the Sonnenberg Association was founded, which made the development of the Sonnenberg area its task. A little later, a request stop for the Filderbahn company was set up, making it easier to achieve the local recreation goal. In 1910 the Sonnenberg country house colony , as it was then called, had 27 residents. In the following decade it grew slowly and expanded towards the train station. At the beginning of the First World War, a dozen families lived on the Sonnenberg. There was a water pipe since 1906 and a gas connection since 1925. Local infrastructure began to develop with the first shop in 1927 and the first bakery in 1931.

The municipality of Möhringen drew up a site plan in 1930, whereupon over 200 residential buildings were built between 1934 and 1936. In 1934, the Sonnenberg Association successfully campaigned for a loose development with large garden areas, so that the Sonnenberg became a garden city . Further expansion phases followed. In 1936 the settlement had around 1000 inhabitants, in 1939 there were already 2500 inhabitants. In 1942, Sonnenberg was incorporated into Stuttgart with Möhringen.

In the spring and summer of 1946, almost the entire Sonnenberg had to be cleared for residential use by the American occupying forces, so that Sonnenberg became an American-influenced settlement. It took nine years before most of the Americans moved to the Burgholzhof in 1955 and most of the Sonnenbergers were able to return to their homes. The last house on the Sonnenberg was only released again in 1957.

In the recent past, what was once loose development has been gradually denser.

The listed Protestant community center is located in the center of Sonnenberg (built in 1965 by Ernst Gisel )

Districts

When the Stuttgart districts were reorganized on January 1, 2001, the Möhringen district was divided into the Möhringen-Mitte, Möhringen-Nord, Möhringen-Ost, Möhringen-Süd, Sternhäule and Wallgraben-Ost districts and the Fasanenhof district into the Fasanenhof and Fasanenhof districts. Split east. With the already existing district of Sonnenberg, the district town hall in Möhringen has since managed a total of nine districts.
