Boomie Richman

Abraham Samuel "Boomie" Richman (born April 2, 1922 in Brockton , Massachusetts ) is a former American jazz musician (tenor saxophone, baritone saxophone, clarinet, bass clarinet, flute, piccolo), known as a tenor saxophonist with the Tommy Dorsey Orchestra.

He first played locally in Boston and moved to New York City in 1942 , where he worked as a freelancer with Jerry Wald (1942), Muggsy Spanier (1944) and George Paxton (1945) , among others . From 1945 to 1951 he was in the big band of Tommy Dorsey, with whom he often recorded.

After that he was a studio musician in New York, but also continued to play jazz on the side, including repeatedly with Benny Goodman in the first half of the 1950s. He played in the Sauter Finegan Orchestra , with Ruby Braff , Al Cohn , Red Allen and Cootie Williams . He was still active in the 1970s, but no longer as a jazz musician. As a studio musician, he has played in the TV shows of Dick Cavett , Pat Boone , Andy Williams , Patti Page , Perry Como and Jimmy Dean , among others . In 1972 he retired.

He has accompanied singers such as Rosemary Clooney , Ella Fitzgerald , Frank Sinatra , Lena Horne , Sammy Davis Jr., Tony Bennett , Judy Garland (Carnegie Hall 1958), Buddy Holly (1958 on True Love Ways ) and Peggy Lee and with Nat King Cole . He never recorded under his own name.
