The Boost Engagement FBX non-profit GmbH (from English to boost , "increase, increase, promote"; own spelling of the project: boost ) made an internet platform available on the boost-project.com website that enabled its users to Purchase to generate a donation for a nonprofit organization of your choice. This gave non-profit organizations the opportunity to generate additional income easily and free of charge. Boost has partnered with over 600 online retailers and over 2200 nonprofits. The total amount of donations generated during the period of its existence added up to over 1.6 million euros.

Basic principle

Price comparison portals and advertising platforms receive a commission from the online retailer for every purchase made within the framework of so-called affiliate marketing . This averages around six percent, but can vary significantly depending on the shop and product. boost had made use of the affiliate marketing concept and received corresponding remuneration for online purchases made via the boost platform. Ninety percent of the proceeds from each transaction were donated to a customer-selected, registered charity. The remaining ten percent was used by Boost Engagement FBX gGmbH to cover its own costs.

The principle used is also known as charity shopping .

boost could be used both with and without registration. There were over 20,000 registered users. In addition to the website, boost offered a browser extension (the so-called boost bar) for Firefox , Firefox for Android , Safari and Google Chrome . This did not exist for Internet Explorer and Opera . The boost bar automatically reminded users to boost when they called up a shop that was registered with boost.

Company history

The project was founded in 2012 by Frank C. Eckert and Benjamin Vahle, who managed it throughout its existence until 2017. In total, over 2,200 charities benefited from boost. These included Aktion Deutschland Hilft , Suma e. V. (operator of MetaGer ), WWF Germany , Johanniter-Unfall-Hilfe , Sea Shepherd and many other, often regional, initiatives. On the part of the online shops, there were partnerships with over 600 online retailers. Large partners were, for example, Deutsche Bahn , Deutsche Post , IKEA , Otto-Versand and Fressnapf . When Amazon terminated the cooperation on September 30, 2016, which resulted in a massive decrease in donations, the sale of the gGmbH to WeCanHelp gGmbH was announced on October 20, 2017 , which was completed on December 31, 2017. Except in cases in which the right of objection was exercised, the user accounts and the accounts of the charities were taken over from wecanhelp.de, but their donation history was deleted, which is why all donation counters started again from zero.

reception

The organization complied with the declaration of commitment from Transparency International , which, however, did not include the charities. Boost was consistently received positively in the media.
