Boris Paal

Boris P. Paal (* 1974 in Stuttgart ) is a German lawyer and professor at the University of Freiburg .

Life

After a year of general studies at the Leibniz College in Tübingen, Paal began studying law at the University of Tübingen in the 1995/96 winter semester . He finished his studies in 1999 with the First State Examination in Tübingen. He then worked for a research associate of Werner F. Ebke at the University of Konstanz , where Paal 2001 after a period of research at the New York University Dr. jur. PhD. In August of the same year he earned the title " Magister iuris " at Magdalen College of the University of Oxford . He returned to Germany for his legal clerkship, which he served in the district of the Düsseldorf Higher Regional Court . In 2003 Paal passed his second state examination. Paal then returned to Ebke's chair as a research assistant in order to devote himself to his habilitation. Together with Ebke, Paal moved to Heidelberg University in 2004 , where he completed his habilitation in 2009. He was awarded the venia legendi for the subjects civil law, commercial and economic law, international private law and media law.

In the summer semester of 2009, Paal represented the chair for civil law with information law, media law and internet law at the University of Freiburg . He has held this chair since the winter semester 2009/10. In December 2010 his chair was renamed "Chair for Civil and Commercial Law, Media and Information Law". From 2012 to 2014 Paal was Dean of Studies at the Faculty of Law in Freiburg.

Paal's main research interests are national and international private and commercial law, media, data protection and information law, and antitrust and fair trading law.
