Boris Vukčević (born March  16, 1990 in Osijek , SFR Yugoslavia ) is a former German football player .

Club career

youth

Vukčević began playing football in 1995 at the Hessian club SV Staufenberg. After moving to Sindelfingen in 2000, he went to the D-youth of VfL Sindelfingen and moved to the B-youth of SV Böblingen . A year later he moved to the youth department of VfB Stuttgart .

Professional at TSG 1899 Hoffenheim

In the summer of 2008 Vukčević moved to the second team of TSG 1899 Hoffenheim . On the last day of the 2008/09 season he was there in the first team in the 3-2 away win at FC Schalke 04 in the Bundesliga . Since the beginning of the 2009/10 season he was in the first team's squad and scored his first Bundesliga goal on the last matchday against VfB Stuttgart. On April 2, 2011, he suffered a broken fibula in the game against Hamburger SV and was out until the end of November 2011. In autumn 2012, Vukčević had a serious car accident and temporarily fell into a coma, from which he woke up again. His contract, which ran until summer 2014, was not extended; however, managing director Peter Rettig promised : "If Boris can play football again, he will get a contract with TSG 1899 Hoffenheim."

National team

Vukčević went through various German youth national teams. In 2008 he was deployed in Germany's U-19 , and between 2009 and 2010 on two deployments in the U-20 . Boris Vukčević has also been a U-21 national player since 2010 and made six appearances under coach Rainer Adrion .

car accident

On September 28, 2012, Vukčević sustained life-threatening injuries in a car accident. Two weeks later there was no longer any mortal danger. Vukčević was treated in the intensive care unit at Heidelberg University Hospital . In October 2012 he was transferred to a rehab clinic for further inpatient treatment.

The forensic evaluation of the medical documents revealed acute hypoglycaemia as the cause of the accident. Vukčević is a type 1 diabetic and had a car accident for this reason in October 2010.

A year after his accident, his parents said in an interview that he had made good progress “on the way back to a normal life.” On April 2, 2014, he appeared in public for the first time during a visit to his team , two weeks later he attended a Bundesliga match at his club.
